LAIKA from the U.K. kicked some serious electronica/analogue hybrid
arse at their concert in Stengade 30 as part of København's
Venue Festival recently. (sharing the bill was Norway's PALACE OF
PLEASURE - haaaauuuus musik...)
i chatted with singer/programmer/you-name-it margaret FIEDLER after the
show. (this is a new feature here at the home of p.m.r. - every so often a new
band will be interviewed - the 5 W's & How?, plus a story about that
age-old indie-rock institution, crashing at people's homes on tour.)
voila.

"well, there was the time we ended up at a looney bin in belgium. we had just played in this really small town in belgium, it was a really good show, and then when we asked the people where we were sleeping, they said 'oh - with the childy people!' so we asked them who the 'childy people' were & they pointed to their heads [as in 'cuckoo! cuckoo!'] - ah, the childy people! then they drove us like an hour out of town, way out in the middle of nowhere, to this beautiful farm, and there was this looney bin. the building was split into dormitories, with one for men, and one for women, but i'm the only woman in the band, so i said 'i'm not sleeping alone in there!' so we all slept in the same place. there were a bunch of learning disabled men walking around - they brewed their own beer there, this really dark strong stuff, and baked their own bread, which was wonderful. we woke up the next morning and came down for breakfast..."
